Another Way is written by Curtis Hinckley, with input from countless others. Many years ago, I realized that conventional wisdom wasn’t going to work for me and wasn’t working for the world at large. Since then, I’ve been intent to find other ways of understanding and living that are inspired by deeper truths about ourselves and our relationship to each other and the rest of life on Earth. My search has been guided, perhaps above all, by a keen interest in the broader questions of our collective experience; how to live harmoniously together and especially with the planet. My intention with this book is to share what I’ve discovered in the hope that it will encourage others to do what they can to help manifest a world that’s governed by greater awareness, sensitivity, kindness, and cooperation.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider.
A Note on the Subject Pronoun
I feel compelled to write this book using the first-person plural perspective. I recognize, of course, that it’s a curious and unorthodox approach, but it makes sense for a number of reasons. First and foremost, this is truly a collaborative work. I’m no authority on this subject matter, and while certain elements of the writing are idiosyncratic to me, the essence of the content isn’t of me and I want to acknowledge this distinction.
The work at hand is also collaborative with you, the reader. Ultimately, the writing itself exists only as a means to further the greater, collective undertaking of its subject and your participation is essential. As I write, I feel connected to this confluence of shared purpose and it seems only natural to regard my role in relation to the whole. Thus, the We of this book represents the unity of myself, those from whom I’ve learned, and all of you, attuned together to the spirit of this work and poised to contribute however we may.
